9.06 MODY6 Maturity onset diabetes of the young, type VI
The NEUROD1 gene is expressed in pancreatic and neuronal cells and the NEUROD1 protein is a basic helix-loop-helix nuclear transcription factor that regulates expression of the INS gene as well as pancreatic islet morphogenesis and neuronal development. Heterozygous mutations in the NEUROD1 gene cause beta cell dysfunction. NEUROD1-MODY is characterized by variable-onset diabetes mellitus with obese or non-obese phenotypes and occasional ketosis (PMID:33292863).
