Comment To test whether the mitochondrial biogenesis and improvement in mitochondrial function are related to SIRT1 and PGC-1alpha, rotenone impact on their expression was investigated. The expression of PGC-1alpha and SIRT1 increased at low concentrations of rotenone (12.5 and 25 nmol/L). SIRT1 demonstrated a 20% increase compared with control group, while PGC-1 alpha showed 26% increase. However, at higher concentrations (50 and 100 nmol/L), the expression of SIRT1 still increased (40% compared with the control group) but that of PGC-1alpha decreased to normal level.
