Comment The expression of the exoS gene is associated with the pvdE gene-mediated penetration of P. aeruginosa through intestinal epithelial cell monolayers. The exoS gene mRNA expression in the delta-pvdE strain was greatly decreased, compared to the wild-type strain. The expression of other type III-related genes (exoT, exoY, and pscF) in the delta-pvdE strain was not influenced. The exoS-complemented delta-pvdE strain (delta-pvdE/exoS) showed recovery in bacterial penetration ability through epithelial cell monolayers.
