Pseudomonas aeruginosa/mammalia
epithelial cell monolayers of MDCK or Caco-2 cells, infected with P. aeruginosa strain PAO1 delta-pvdE/pvdE or delta-pvdE/exoS
Reference: Okuda J et al.(2012) Complementation of the exoS gene in the pvdE pyoverdine synthesis gene-deficient mutant of Pseudomonas aeruginosa results in recovery of the pvdE gene-mediated penetration through the intestinal epithelial cell barrier but not the pvdE-mediated virulence in silkworms J. Infect. Chemother. 18: 332-340 [PMID: 22080193]

Interaction Information:

Comment The expression of the exoS gene is associated with the pvdE gene-mediated penetration of P. aeruginosa through intestinal epithelial cell monolayers. The exoS gene mRNA expression in the delta-pvdE strain was greatly decreased, compared to the wild-type strain. The expression of other type III-related genes (exoT, exoY, and pscF) in the delta-pvdE strain was not influenced. The exoS-complemented delta-pvdE strain (delta-pvdE/exoS) showed recovery in bacterial penetration ability through epithelial cell monolayers.
