Comment The authors analysed six hypothetical C. burnetii proteins that has been translocated into host cells in an Icm/Dot-dependent manner. These effector-encoding genes were found to be expressed, as shown by qPCR with C. burnetii grown in axenic media, as well as in vivo in HEK 293T cells. They showed a similar expression pattern as two previously identified C. burnetii effectors, coxDFB1 and CBU2056.
