Comment The authors identified two T4SS effector proteins, named CaeA (CBU1524) and CaeB (CBU1532), that inhibit the intrinsic apoptotic pathway. The effector proteins were ectopically produced in transiently CHO cells, apoptosis measured after induction with staurosporine. CaeB blocks apoptosis very efficiently, while the anti-apoptotic activity of CaeA is weaker.
