human bronchial epithelial cells, infected with P. aeruginosa strain PAO1
Gellatly SL et al.(2012) The Pseudomonas aeruginosa PhoP-PhoQ two-component regulatory system is induced upon interaction with epithelial cells and controls cytotoxicity and inflammation Infect. Immun. 80: 3122-3131
PhoQ mutation led to altered structure and inflammatory properties of the lipid A portion of lipopolysaccharid (LPS). This indicates that the mutation of phoQ results in a phenotype that is similar to the less virulent but more inflammatory phenotype of clinical strains isolated from chronic-stage cystic fibrosis lung infections.
