Comment There was a fourfold increase in the level of of IL-8, a chemotactic factor that attracts neutrophils, in the culture medium of Caco-2 cells infected with delta-exoS relative to the level in the medium of cells infected with the wild-type strain. These results were verified in Caco-2 cell monolayers. The IL-8 concentration in the culture medium, infected with delta-exoS was significantly higher at the apical side but not at the basolateral side of the Caco-2 cell monolaye.
