Comment The infection with P. aeruginosa increased plasma membrane fluorescent staining, consistent with an accumulation of ceramide because of infection. The expression of ceramide at the cell membrane increased significantly upon infection with P. aeruginosa in both IB3-1 and CuFi-1 cells. Treatment with miglustat and amitriptyline significantly reduced the increase of plasma membrane ceramide expression. This strengthens the link between the anti-inflammatory effects of the two drugs and the modulation of ceramide expression at the plasma membrane of bronchial epithelial cells.
