The expression of ceramide at the cell membrane increased significantly upon infection with P. aeruginosa in both IB3-1 and CuFi-1 cells. Treatment with miglustat and amitriptyline significantly reduced the increase of plasma membrane ceramide expression. This strengthens the link between the anti-inflammatory effects of the two drugs and the modulation of ceramide expression at the plasma membrane of bronchial epithelial cells.
