Primary cultured conjunctival epithelial cells or human conjunctiva epithelial cell line Chang, infected with P. aeruginosa
Venza I et al.(2009) Pseudomonas aeruginosa induces interleukin-8 (IL-8) gene expression in human conjunctiva through the recruitment of both RelA and CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein beta to the IL-8 promoter. J. Biol. Chem. 284: 4191-4199
The results provide evidence of the functional role of RelA and C/EBPbeta in P. aeruginosa-induced IL-8 gene expression and exclude any involvement of c-Jun.
P. aeruginosa induces IL-8 promoter expression and protein production in conjunctival epithelial cells by activating RelA and C/EBPbeta and by promoting the cooperative binding of these transcription factors to the IL-8 promoter that in turn activates transcription.
