Comment P. aeruginosa activation of p38MAPK resulted in the (i) up-regulation of IL-8 at the transcriptional level and (ii) phosphorylation and binding to IL-8 promoter of the transcription factor C/EBPbeta. The activation of C/EBPbeta responsible for IL-8 expression was p38MAPK-dependent because the inhibitor of this kinase completely abolished phosphorylation and DNA binding of C/EBPbeta This result is in agreement with literature data showing that p38MAPK can directly phosphorylate subunits of C/EBP transcription factors, in particular C/EBPbeta.
