Comment The pel biosynthetic operon has been definitively identified as being subject to QS regulation. The pel gene cluster (pelABCDEFG) encodes proteins responsible for the production of glucose-rich biofilm exopolysaccharide. This polysaccharide is essential for surface-associated biofilm or pellicle formation. The Las QS system and to a lesser extent the Rhl system is involved in transcription of the pel biosynthetic genes.
