Comment Pathogen interactions with autophagosomes can have either beneficial or detrimental effects. Coxiella clearly benefits from autophagy as induction of this pathway increases the number of infected cells, the size of the PV, and the extent of Coxiella replication. These effects are abolished when infected cells are treated with the autophagy inhibitors wortmannin and 3-methyladenine.
